The last 1.5 years I am researching and getting deeper to Mr Anthony Braxton’s music. I discovered Mr. Braxton’s music 3 years ago by a friend of mine. From the information firstly received, I thought that he is mostly a jazz improviser. At first listening to his Quartet standards did not really get my attention.
After many years and when the first Covid Lockdowns took place, I decided to listen again Mr. Braxton’s music. I was searching for solo contrabass music pieces that were totally different. I found a great solo double bass album by Mr. James Ilgenfritz. In the beginning i couldn’t realize what happened. The music seemed improvised but the title was Composition n….
This was the time that I started searching more Mr. Braxton’s music. His music is a big chapter of my perception about composition, music creativity. His works were a big injection of inspiration and since my youth hood I has not been so enthusiastic and committed to an Artist and his or her work.
My research still goes on. Reading his books, his transcripts, studying some of over 400 Compositions, watching his videos, reading his interviews, listening to his colleagues’ and the old Chicago AACM scene music.
This video is a sample of the “Language of Music” that Mr. Braxton released with 12 signs that anyone can describe the basic elements or compositional ideas of every music creation on the planet.
I am dedicating to Mr. Braxton my solo. I tried not to control the bass technically but use every sound as a part of a bigger scale creation that still rings in my mind. I tried to be happy and have fun. I tried to compose by including the ideas and have the meta-effect of my sounds and their way to approach the listener.
One of my dreams is to meet Mr. Braxton and play some music with him.
